Request the purchase of a book

You may request the purchase of a book using any one of the following methods:

  • The Online Book Request Form

    • Fill out the UO Library Request Form with as much information about the title as possible. The best way to locate basic bibliographic information about a resource is to find a record in the Worldcat database. A Worldcat record can also be cut and pasted into the text box available for this activity.
  • E-mail a record from Worldcat

    • You may e-mail a record from the Worldcat database directly to one of the A&AA librarians.
    • Locate the record in Worldcat . When you have the record for the desired title on your screen, click the "E-mail" button located in the gray bar near the top of the screen. Please do not e-mail lists of books-- mail each request individually.
    • Send your request to either Ed or Cara (e-mail addresses listed above), as is appropriate for the subject of the book.
    • In the subject line type "Book Request".
    • In the notes field type your name and your e-mail or phone number. Book requests without a name and contact information will not be given priority consideration.
  • E-mail a Librarian directly

    • You may also e-mail a librarian directly. Please include the title, author, publisher and location and the year published. An ISBN number is ideal. Your name and contact information are also required. The subject line should read "Book Request".
  • Provide sales information about a book to a Librarian

    • If you have received a sales catalog from a bookstore or publisher, you may mark the catalog with your selections and give it to the librarian. It is advisable to ask speak with a librarian when you drop this information off at the library.

Request the purchase of an image

All requests for digital images or slides must go to Julia Simic in the Visual Resources Collection.

Request the purchase of a video (faculty only)

UO faculty may request the purchase of a video. These requests will be considered carefully and every effort will be made to locate and acquire requested material. Videos and films required for classroom use will be given priority. All films and videos are housed in the Reserves and Videos room at Knight Library.

To request the purchase of a video, fill out the Video Acquisition Request form. Please read the instructions carefully and fill out as much information as possible.

Request the purchase of material to be put on Reserve (faculty only)

There are two ways to request the purchase of new material for your reserves list. Reserve requests are rush-ordered; however, allow 60 to 90 days for the material to arrive in the library. To request the purchase of materials for reserve, you may:

  • Use the Online Reserve Orders form

    • Fill out the Reserve Order form with as much information about the title as is possible. The more you are able to tell us, the easier it will be for us to locate and acquire the material. Make sure you select "AAA Library" where it says "Location for this reserve material".
  • Use the Paper Reserve form

    • Fill out the traditional Reserves List form as you do for all books and resources being placed on reserve. Materials that you are requesting for purchase may be included in this list. However, for these resources please write "PLEASE PURCHASE" and the 10 digit ISBN in the space labled "Call Number". If you do not know the ISBN, you may find it by locating a record for the book in the Worldcat database.
