Library facilities are among the most heavily used on
campus. Every day during the academic term, six thousand students, faculty, and
members of the broader community use one or more of the libraries on campus.
Modern, flexible, and technology-rich libraries are one of the most important
criteria for prospective students. The Library Building Fund will provide the
resources needed to respond to changing use patterns and provide an environment
that remains highly functional, inviting, comfortable, and conducive to
individual and collaborative research.
As one of the great repositories of the Northwest, the UO
Libraries holds materials of enormous historical and scholarly significance.
The director of Special Collections' responsibility is to identify key
resources that have historical value and to acquire, preserve, and make these
irreplaceable collections available to the campus and broader community. One
area of emerging importance is building the documentary photograph collection,
with images that are central to
understanding economic, ecological, social, and political issues relating to
the Pacific Northwest.
$1,200,000 for
named endowment fund
Recognizing the importance of strong libraries in preparing today's students for a lifetime of learning, Coach Mike Bellotti made a gift to create the Bellotti Family Fund. Also known as the library's opportunity fund, the Bellotti endowment supports the UO Libraries' efforts to engage in research, development, and experimentation in the areas of information technology, effective teaching, and advancements in access to scholarly resources.
Technology is an integral part of all library services. Students and faculty use computers to locate, review, and retrieve materials. The library offers consulting services to teach faculty how to use technology more effectively in the classroom, as well as web design services for the entire campus. The library administers the campus-wide online courseware system used by all students as an accompaniment to their classes. The library provides computer classrooms and laboratories for student use. Gifts to the Technology Fund help the library purchase new technology, software, and storage capacity to meet the needs of students and faculty.
The University of Oregon Libraries' collection of 2.6 million volumes, together with a vast number and range of electronic resources, forms the core of teaching, learning, and scholarship at the University of Oregon. The integrated use of traditional print and electronic resources is vital to researchers pursuing the full range of scholarship in their disciplines. Gifts to support the Collections Enrichment Fund help the library purchase books and materials in all formats that enhance the library's collections.
Gifts to the Deans Discretionary Fund provide the maximum flexibility to address immediate and high priority needs and to leverage other resources. Examples include supporting staff development and training opportunities, providing matches for grants, providing educational technology programs for the campus, employing skilled students to work on special projects, and collaborating with research libraries worldwide to improve access to scholarly resources.
