Reference service: Librarians are available for reference assistance in-person or by telephone (541-346-3070)See our desk hours page for the best times to contact us. UO users may send reference questions by e-mail.
Course-related instruction: Document Center librarians support University instructors with relevant course-related classroom lectures, library tours, bibliographies, and group project consultation. Arrangements for such activities should be made at least two weeks in advance if possible. Faculty and GTFs should contact the appropriate librarian to arrange for instruction.
Workshops: Librarians will conduct or arrange workshops for students, faculty, and community groups on topics related to government and business information. Examples of previous workshops are "Census 2000", "Patent Information", "Internet Statistics", and "Historical Research with Government Sources".
Statistical support: The department is one of the four "coordinating agencies" of Oregon's State Data Center, affiliated with the U.S. Bureau of the Census. In that capacity, the department provides assistance to the University and the wider Oregon community in locating, retrieving, using, and interpreting available statistical data from governmental sources.
Patent searching: Our librarians will instruct and assist patrons who want to investigate existing U.S. patents. Useful resources include the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's CASSIS patent databases and trademark databases on CD-ROM, and the Official Gazettes of the US PTO. We can make no guarantees as to the completeness or accuracy of any search performed with our assistance.
