New Interlibrary Loan System Begins Nov. 18. - (November 17, 2009)
If you’ve used the library’s online Interlibrary Loan system in the past, beginning November 18, you’ll notice a few changes in the interface, request forms, and process used when requesting items from libraries that are not part of the Summit system. Called ILLiad, the new system features a display that tracks the progress of recently requested items, along with a list of items previously borrowed through the ILLiad patron account. Increased efficiencies in the new system are also expected to produce faster turnaround times for receiving items.

A Little Knight Music Series Offers Free Saxophone Quartet Concert, Thur., Dec. 3 - (November 17, 2009)
The University of Oregon Libraries’ music series, A Little Knight Music, will present its fall 2009 offering with a concert of classical saxophone quartet music by a new UO group, the Infinity Saxophone Quartet. Music by Caryl Florio, Samuel Adler, Alfred Désenclos, Perry Goldstein, and Eugène Bozza will be featured. The free concert will take place Thursday, December 3, at 6:30 p.m. in Knight Library’s Browsing Room. The concert will be followed by a reception for the artists.

Avoid Finals Fatigue; Come to the Library Study Break Party on Sun., Dec. 6. - (November 17, 2009)
Finals Fatigue is a condition that affects nearly 9 out of 10 UO students. Symptoms include textbook-exhaustion, group-project-itis, and dry mouth. Luckily, the UO Libraries has developed a cure: free food and drinks. Stop by the Browsing Room in Knight Library from 10 P.M.. to 11 P.M. on Sunday, December 6, for the third-ever Library Study Break Party and enjoy refreshments courtesy of the UO Libraries.

UO Libraries Ask Instructors to Press Buttons in the Classroom - (November 12, 2009)
The UO Libraries Center for Media and Educational Technologies (CMET) maintains most classroom media on campus. Instructional faculty and GTF’s are being called to action to press the "All Off" button on the machines at the end of the session.

Expert on Open Access to Discuss Future of Academic Publishing, Fri., Dec. 4 - (November 4, 2009)
John Willinsky, a visionary leader and author in the area of digital scholarship and open access, will give a talk entitled “Open Access to Knowledge and the Intellectual Properties of Learning” on Friday, December 4, at 3 p.m. in Knight Library’s Browsing Room. A reception will follow the talk.

SkillPort Offers UO Faculty and Staff Just-in-Time Development and Training - (November 4, 2009)
Benefit-eligible faculty and staff members seeking development and training opportunities are encouraged to use SkillPort e-Learning, a powerful new resource offered by the UO’s Organizational Development and Training (ODT) office and the library's Center for Media and Educational Technologies (CMET). SkillPort is a Web-based e-learning portal where users have round-the-clock access to a range of training resources at home, at work, and even on the road. Curricula on thousands of topics in the areas of business technology, information technology, and desktop and interactive media software are available in SkillPort.

Drop-In Advising Available at Knight Library on Wednesdays This Term - (October 21, 2009)
Visit Room 147A in Knight Library on Wednesday nights between 7 P.M. and 9 P.M. this term until Nov. 18 and you can get some free, expert advice on your academic status and progress. The UO's Office of Academic Advising and the UO Libraries are teaming up once again to provide drop-in academic advising during fall term.

Faculty Alert! Open Access Events End Today, Fri., Oct. 23 - (October 21, 2009)
A weeklong series of library-sponsored Open Access events ends today with a talk by Carl Malamud on issues involving open access to legal materials. Specifically, Malamud will discuss a case in which a UO faculty member questioned the state Attorney General’s assertion of copyright in and potential restriction of access to legal materials. The talk is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon Studio A, Knight Library.
