UO Libraries Welcomes New Hires to the Portland Branch

The UO Libraries is pleased to welcome new staff members Karen Munro and Peter Gunn to the UO Portland Library and Learning Commons. As head of the new Portland branch library, Munro will be responsible for library operations. Gunn, the new technology services manager, will oversee technology at the Portland branch.

Karen Munro

As the head of the Portland Library and Learning Commons, Munro will collaborate extensively with colleagues on the Eugene campus in library-wide programs of collection development, access services, library systems, educational technology, media production, and distance education. Munro has served as the E-learning librarian at the University of California, Berkeley, and as literature librarian at the University of Oregon.

Munro holds several postgraduate degrees in library-related fields. After completing her undergraduate work in English literature at McGill University in Montreal, she earned her MFA in creative writing from the University of Iowa. From there, she went on to receive an MLIS degree from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Throughout her academic and professional career, Munro has participated in many educational technology programs, from web management to online tutorials, making her uniquely qualified to work with the new technology that plays an integral part in the operations of the UO Portland Library and Learning Commons.

Peter Gunn

Prior to joining the library staff at the UO Portland branch, Peter Gunn served as a senior field service representative with the Information and Technology Department in the Beaverton School District. He provided technical support to more than fifty schools and administrative departments.

Gunn graduated from Carleton College with a degree in physics and holds a postgraduate degree from Cornell University in physics education. He has spent many years working in technology and education-related fields.

Other UO Portland Library Staff

Dvora Robinson, who has worked at the UO's AAA library branch in Portland since 2002, has moved to the Portland Library and Learning Commons in the White Stag Block, where AAA library resources will now be housed.

The Portland library staff will work closely with Eugene-based subject specialists Ed Teague (architecture), Cara List (art), and Paul Frantz (journalism) to develop library services and collections for UO's Portland programs.
