Currently on Display: Little Golden Books Children’s Series

Special Collections and University Archives, located on the second floor of Knight Library, has over fifty books on display from the Little Golden Books series. Launched in 1942, the series was the first to produce all-color, high-quality story books and make them widely accessible to children.

The books cost just 25 cents and could be found not only in bookstores but also in drug stores and dime stores. Easily recognizable with the golden spine, the series became famous, selling over two billion copies around the world to date. Some of the most-loved titles include The Poky Little Puppy and The Saggy Baggy Elephant.

Visit the exhibit and count how many titles you remember from your own childhood. You may be surprised to realize that, as children, your grandparents read the same books you did as a child.

The collection was donated to Special Collections by Lucille Ogle, creator of the Little Golden Book series. The exhibit profiles Ogle's career as a children's book publisher. The exhibit runs through October 23. Visit http://libweb.uoregon.edu/speccoll/hours.html for Special Collections hours.
