The information environment is becoming more complex. The library's credit curriculum is designed to provide students with the concepts, skills, and tools to successfully and effectively operate in an information-rich, globally networked society. Course Descriptions and Offerings


LIB 101 - Introduction to Library Research (1) Introduction to using the fundamental resources of a library: its catalogs, periodical indexes, electronic resources, and special collections.

  • Offered every quarter except summer

LIB 199 - Global Information (1) Students will develop research skills in researching global information, including demographic statistics, journalistic sources, and scholarly journal articles. They will investigate how Americans are informed by global news and how this news colors our perceptions of global issues. Students will use a variety of library resources to gain an awareness of how to critically examine information and make judgments about its authority and perspective.

  • Offered Summer 2008 - first 4 weeks

LIB 323 - Modern Information Environment (4) Special Topics. Discusses the complexities of the modern information environment. Develops skills in locating, retrieving, and evaluating information. Examines the sociopolitical issues of information access. .Usually offered every other year, but specific term may vary.

  • Offered Winter 2008: Primary Sources  

LIB 399 - Special Topics: [Topic] (1-5R) Introduction to general library resources and to subject-related library resources. Repeatable when topic changes.

LIB 405 - Reading and Conference: [Topic] (1-21R)

LIB 407/507 - Seminar: [Topic] (1-5R) Library resources and bibliography.

LIB 409, Practicum: [Topic] (1-12R)

LIB 410/510 - Experimental Course: [Topic] (1-5R)

LIB 453/553 - Government Information (4) Characteristics and life cycles of information produced by federal, state, and local government bodies. Policies governing access to public information. Finding and using government information.

LIB 605 - Reading and Conference: [Topic] (1-16R)
