The Music Services collection, one of the largest in Oregon, brings together all the resources music scholars need in one location. The collection consists of over 30,000 music scores and parts for pieces up to 10 players (including instrumental methods books); 225 bound and unbound periodicals (serials, magazines, annuals, etc.); 25,000 books on music; as well as the Music Reference Collection.
Particular strengths of the collection include scores and recordings for the compositions of Pacific Northwest composers, especially those from Oregon; music by women composers (both scores and recordings); and a large reference collection of composers' collected editions and monuments of music.
In addition to items housed in the Music Services Department (which is located on the third floor of the Knight Library), microfilm copies of older magazines and journals as well as music resources published only in microfilm form are available in the Microforms Department of the Library.
Videotapes and videodisks of music are located in the Video Collection. . A list of the music-related videos is available in the Douglass Listening Room. And archives of musicians and music-related original resources are housed in the Knight Library's Special Collections Department. Of special interest to jazz musicians are the Henry Beau Collection and the Red Nichols Collection.
Other components of the Music Services Department are the Douglass Listening Room collection and the historical Sheet Music Collection.
