FACILITIES & TECHNOLOGY

Workstations

We have six academic collaboration workstations with large adjustable monitors.  These workstations are restricted to UO users with Duck IDs.

These workstations are loaded with a wide range of applications including standard productivity, design, and mapping software.  In addition to the suite of software found here, the academic workstations in Portland also include AutoCAD 2011, AutoDesk Revit, and Rhino.

There are also two Internet workstations allowing network access without UO log-in. The UO Library catalog and databases, as well as the Internet generally, are available from these workstations.  Please limit non-research activities to 15 minutes.

Study room

You can use our quiet study room by booking in advance or dropping in. Advance-booking users have priority over drop-ins, and UO users have priority over non-UO users. The room seats two comfortably or four cozily, and is equipped with soft seating, a table, and a computer. Book the room by emailing us.

Printers and copiers

We have one black-and-white printer that will print 8.5 x 11" (letter) or 8.5 x 14" (legal) pages. Black-and-white printing costs 8 cents per page (Campus Cash only).

We also have one color printer that can print both these sizes, as well as 11 x 17" (tabloid) pages. Color printing costs 50 cents per page for letter and legal paper and $1 per page for tabloid pages (Campus Cash only).

Black-and-white printing on the color printer can be done at 8 cents per page of letter-sized page and 16 cents per page of tabloid page.  The properties for the printer must be set to Black-and-White before the job is sent, or the job will be charged at the color rate.  See the reference desk staff for details.

Our color printer doubles as a photocopier. Photocopying costs 8 cents per page (Campus Cash only).

Patrons who wish to print to these printers from their own laptops can do so by following the instructions linked below:

• Dell 5310n black-and-white printer
WindowsMacOS

• Ricoh Aficio MP C2000 color printer
Windows | MacOS

Our reference desk cannot accept cash for printing or copying. You can add Campus Cash to your UO ID card or to generic Campus Cash cards available at the Duck Store.

To add Campus Cash to a card, log into DuckWeb or the Campus Cash website (users with UO IDs only) or call the UO Card Office during regular business hours and use a credit or debit card with Visa logo. The toll-free number for the Card Office is 1-877-877-4635.

Scanners

We have three flatbed scanners and one 35 mm slide/negative scanner (no batch feed) available for UO users. Each scanner is connected directly to one of the academic workstations.  Access to the scanners is best done through the Import command in Adobe Photoshop.

All users are encouraged to bring a flash drive or to email work to themselves, as the content of the workstations is refreshed regularly.

UO Faculty can also take advantage of some other options for getting slides and other visual materials digitized for academic use.  For more information, see the page here.

Large-format printing and scanning

The Library staffs and supports the Output Room, located on the 5th floor of the White Stag block. This facility offers high-quality, mediated wide-format printing and scanning.

Output Room equipment:

  • 27.5" vinyl cutter
  • 42" digital scanner
  • 42" wide-format printer
  • 44" wide-format 12-color printer
  • laser jet color printer (prints letter and tabloid)

Costs for wide-format printing vary according to the type of print job. Full-ink photographic prints are $12 per linear foot. Lines and fill prints are $6 per linear foot. Large-format scanning is $6 per job. Color laser jet printing is 50 cents for letter-size prints and $1 for tabloid.

Users must pay with Campus Cash (see above for ways to acquire and add to a Campus Cash account.)

Videoconferencing

We offer support for educational videoconferencing between White Stag Block classrooms and remote locations.  Please see our videoconferencing support page for information on setting up a videoconference at UO-Portland.  For information on technical support of videoconferences, contact Sean Curtin, the Educational Video Specialist.

Group study and classroom

The Library and Learning Commons has a group study space and classroom available for UO and limited non-UO use.  Please see our room use policies.

Blackboard

A service of the UO Libraries, the Blackboard course management system is an easy-to-use web-based tool for hosting syllabi, assignments, grades, discussion tools, and more. Your UO e-mail username and password are required for access.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The UO Libraries provide access to ArcMap/ArcGIS and a variety of datasets, available for download. ArcMap/ArcGIS is installed on the library's academic workstations. For further information, see our page on GIS services, or contact the Map and Aerial Photography Library.
