Science Library Classrooms

The Science Library currently has three classroom/meeting spaces available to be reserved for teaching or instructional use, for meetings (including teleconferencing), or for planned group study.

When you click on one of the calendars below to reserve a room, please deselect any rooms that show up in the list that you don't need (e.g., if the calendar says B90C-D and B70A, and you only want the latter, remove B90C-D from the list by clicking on the button below the room options).  Remember that reservations are mediated, so will not appear on the calendar grid immediately.

Room 22

One of the classrooms is available for hands-on instruction using student laptops and a projector.  There is also a whiteboard, though the projector screen covers most of it.  The room will seat roughly 20-27, depending on furniture configuration; the furniture is light and designed for easy reconfiguration.  This room is available for reservation for classes and other meetings through the calendar for this room, and when unreserved is available as group-study space for students.

NOTE: if you are an instructor reserving the room for a class, and you will need laptops, please include information about how many laptops you will need (we have 20, plus the instructor's), and please plan on taking enough time in advance of the meeting to get things set up to your needs.  The laptops are a circulating collection, so it's important to give plenty of advance notice in order that we can arrange to avoid a conflict. We do also have videoconferencing equipment available for meetings or class use; again, note in the request that it is needed, and plan on lead time to learn to use it/set it up.

Room B90C-D

This new classroom is available for spring 2009.  It will seat 35, with projectors, whiteboards, a chalkboard, and flexible seating similar to that in Room 22, as well as some (20) dedicated laptops. You can reserve it for classes and meetings through its own calendar as well.  See note for Room 22, above, if you need additional laptops, and please note that you'll want to familiarize yourself with equipment in advance of the first meeting if necessary.  Video conferencing is not quite ready to go in this room, but should be available soon.

Room B70-A

The last group space currently reservable is a long narrow room near the circulation desk.  It contains some tables and chairs and a free-standing whiteboard as well as a chalkboard on one wall.  There is no projector, so the room is more suited to small groups than instruction. This room is also available for reservation through the calendar for this room, and when unreserved is also available as group-study space for students.

Room 15A

There is also a non-reservable space available only during non-weekday hours.  Room 15A doesn't have chalk- or whiteboards (yet), and it's small, so it's really only good for groups that don't need boards or a lot of space.  It currently is sharing space with the photocopiers. The reason for the restriction is merely that sound travels very freely between this room and staff offices, and that makes group work in there during the day a significant problem.  We're working on both the sound issue and on getting copiers relocated (there are some technical issues), and then this room will likely also become reservable.  For now, it is first-come, first served, and we will ask you to be quiet during the day.

Questions about any of these classrooms or their facilities may be directed to the manager of the Science Library, or to any library staff.  Please note that calendar requests do go to a live human, so if you really need to have the space reserved, you should give at least a business day's notice; weekends and evenings, the requests will only get seen if that person logs in outside of her working hours.

Conflicts between requests will be dealt with case by case; generally requests will be approved on a first come, first served basis.  However, in some cases larger groups, groups which are actually formal classes or groups with specific hardware needs may bump a group which is less formal or which has not expressed the same needs.  Staff will mediate these changes by contacting the people who made the conflicting requests at the contact information given to work something out.  For group study purposes, periods of 2-3 hours will generally be approved; longer sessions may be approved on the condition that in the event of a room shortage, participants may be asked to share or move.

The Anatomy Room, near the circulation desk (B70-B), is a space with various anatomy models and computer software. It is not a reservable space as the intent is to make these models available for anatomy students; however, when it is not in use for its primary purpose, it too can be used as a group space.

Coming soon: additional Science Library small classroom/learning commons options. This page will be updated as changes occur.
